"Alexis Gargagliano is a treasure of an editor. She has an exquisite feel for language and is sensitive to both the author and the author's words. Any writer whose work she touches will be the better for it."   —Jeannette Walls

"I’ve long had the reporter’s curse: A knack for accumulating mountains of information, and limited ability to pare it down. Alexis’ gifts as an editor—for catching an idea’s essence when I saw only its tangents, for turning a dingy nugget of prose into a gem — have been my a cure."

—Tracie McMillan

"I would have never had a book without Alexis's help and encouragement. She is an amazing editor and I feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to work with her on Demon Camp."—Jen Percy

“When tackling writing a book- you need a comprehensive partner in the process. Alexis is exactly that. Lending her talent, years of experience, and industry wisdom- you can enter the book writing world confident that the outcome will help your personal and professional goals- and build your legacy.”

"I’m so grateful to Alexis. She’s the kind of editor every book needs and every writer wants. She does her work with a strategic mind and a personal touch, delving into the details that matter without losing sight of the big picture. The list of beautiful books she has contributed to speak for themselves. Most importantly for a writer finding a way in a new marketplace, she gave me confidence."—Katie Ward

Testimonials

"Alexis Gargagliano is the consummate editor: a passionate reader with an infallible ear, superb taste, a wonderful sense of humor, and a deep empathy for the foibles and frailties of our imperfect characters. She might cut an adjective or two from this description (too overloaded) but I'm sticking with it. As far as I'm concerned, there aren't enough adjectives in the world to describe how terrific she is. You would be, as I have been, exceedingly lucky to work with her."

—Cristina García

Alexis achieves the impossible by making the writing process fun and completely stress-free. Her innate sense of calm, combined with her wonderful sense of humor, creates a nurturing environment for the creative process. The only down side is that when the project ends, her collaborators miss working with her! —Sister Monica Clare

“We all dream of the perfect collaboration in hopes that one day we will find it. My alliance with Alexis Gargagliano, was just that… magical, authentic, and exceeded my expectations of optimal performance!” —Richard Antoine White AKA RawTuba

"With Alexis, you get a 3-for-1 manuscript sherpa, which IMHO is a great deal.

Her first excellent trait is her ability to be empathetic. When I was on the floor feeling defeated and confused, she was so non-judgmental! I felt safe with her to fall apart as another layer of my literary onion painfully peeled away, enabling me to go deeper into my writing and process. She's not exactly a therapist, but somehow after all that emoting, I can pick myself back up and return to the writer's chair, a little less scared.

Her second amazing quality is she can pull a throughline out a bunch of messy pages like finding a needle in a haystack. After I wrote hundreds of pages of nonsense, she artfully surfaced the critical stories and encouraged me to keep exploring. Her mind is a giant web and she is a wizard at connecting things you mentioned in passing with pages you've written to produce some shiny gold.

Her third incredible talent is that when she is in edit mode, she possesses razor sharp blades like Edward Scissorhands and cuts away at the fat until the words that remain are the ones that need to be printed. If there is something missing, she offers very concrete examples of the next direction to take to bring it to completion. And I believe she does this well because, if you are lucky to get slotted into her schedule, it means she cares about your work and wants your voice and vision to sing (and the timing worked out!) out in the world.

Alexis cares deeply, works efficiently, and will sprinkle some magic on you, no matter where you are in the process. I would absolutely work with Alexis again and am so grateful she was my book doula/doctor for my debut memoir. She is patient, practical, and precise. She held my project with the utmost care, helping me manifest a book better than I could have ever hoped for."

Susan Lieu

"Alexis has edited my fiction and nonfiction for over ten years now, and she is simply amazing. She really understands a book's potential and how to help the writer bring that vision to life. "
